Nothing is more important to Outside and the hikers, skiers, climbers, runners, and other active lifestyle enthusiasts we serve than fresh air, clean water, and a stable climate. The future of our trails, peaks, waterways and natural playgrounds depends on the actions we take today to reduce the environmental impact of our business. To that end, CEO Robin Thurston publicly committed Outside to three sustainability targets with a letter to the outdoor industry in December 2020.

A New Style of Fly Rod

We brought our ideas to life after finding a better way to travel, store and setup a fly rod. These ideas came to a head with an internal lined (no eyelets!) telescoping fly rod that is always rigged and easy to use.

Every Bike That Firefly Makes Is Custom

We want our bikes to be a force for positive change, not just for the individuals riding them, but for the planet. The first part of that goal is what we do best, and is what we work to achieve every day. The second part of that goal is a lot harder. We can ride our bikes to work, limit business travel, recycle packing supplies (you should see the pile!), and keep our shop not-that-cool in the summer and far-from-warm in the winter, but that only goes so far. That’s why we are so proud to be working with Cooler to neutralize the climate impact of every bike we make.

Our itineraries are carefully curated to include both unique nature and culture, and fun activities suitable to most travelers. Traveling with guides who live in the communities we visit adds depth and authenticity to the experience.
